摘要:

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Overview:
The mission of Institute for Behavioral and Community Health (IBACH) is to identify modifiable determinants of health disparities and to develop effective strategies to reduce these disparities. This interdisciplinary institute includes a focus on community interventions and attempts to promote and foster active collaboration by researchers and community partners from many different specialties and institutions. The research at IBACH has focused on some of the top contributors of early mortality including diet, physical activity, tobacco use, and other health behaviors, with a special focus on the Latino community.

The Faith in Action (Fe en Acción) study, a project evaluating the implementation of a multi-level intervention promoting physical activity among churchgoing Latinas, is a six-year R01 being implemented in Catholic churches throughout San Diego County. Sixteen churches were enrolled at baseline and randomized to either the physical activity (PA) or cancer screening conditions. Participants (n=437) are enrolled in the two-year intervention and measured at baseline, 12 months, and 24 months. Measures include 5 days accelerometer data, anthropometrics, fitness data, survey data (including self-report PA, religiosity, perceived environment, diet, social support, and cancer screening behaviors).

Under the general supervision of the Project Manager and the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow is responsible for conducting research in the area of physical activity promotion as it relates to the prevention of chronic disease. The focus of the research will be on an innovative multi-level community-based promotora-led intervention working in a team-based environment and collaborating with researchers on a range of projects. The research includes analysis and preparation of manuscripts for publication based on data from the intervention study and related sub studies, as well as the preparation and submission of grant proposals.
