In the frame of an ERC Advanced Grant, our C. elegans team is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoc to study the role of neuropeptides in learning and memory.

Neuropeptide signaling in the regulation of learning and memory

Our research group investigates a variety of fundamental research questions in the field of functional biology and neurobiology, using invertebrate (model) organisms – mainly C. elegans. A major focus is on the role of neuropeptides and G protein-coupled receptors in physiological processes and behavior.

Responsibilities

You will study the properties of neuropeptidergic circuits that influence learning and memory processes. You will tackle several aspects independently, while others are conducted via team efforts. Our C. elegans team consists of four postdoctoral researchers, three lab technicians, eight graduate students and eight undergraduate students (http://bio.kuleuven.be/df/ls).

The work involves a variety of molecular genetic techniques, optogenetics, calcium imaging, establishing behavioral paradigms for learning and memory, and confocal microscopy.

Profile

A PhD in Biology or Biochemistry or equivalent (obtained prior to 1/1/2015) and prior experience with C. elegans research are a must. Experience with C. elegans genetics, imaging tools, or cell identifications are strong advantages.

Offer

We offer a 2 year, full-time postdoctoral position (immediate start in 2015) at the Laboratory of Functional Genomics and Proteomics, University of Leuven,Belgium; with the possibility of extension.

The salary will be in accordance with the University salary scales for postdoctoral researchers.
