Job Description
About Sandia Sandia National Laboratories is the nation's premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation. We are a world-class team of scientists, engineers, technologists, post docs, and visiting researchers all focused on cutting-edge technology, ranging from homeland defense, global security, biotechnology, and environmental preservation to energy and combustion research, computer security, and nuclear defense. To learn more, visit http://www.sandia.gov. Department Description The Materials Physics department performs fundamental research on the structure and properties of materials to support programs in energy research, device physics, materials reliability, and national security. Specific activities include experimental and modeling studies of surface electronic structure and surface atomic structure and dynamics of metals, oxides, low dimensional semiconductors, and adsorbates; atomic-scale structure and composition analysis of metals, semiconductors, and composites; electrical and optical properties of low-dimensional semiconductors and optoelectronic devices; and the structural and electrochemical characterization of solid-state ionic materials. The Department supports internal and external sponsors and government agencies that seek solutions to problems of fundamental scientific inquiry, energy sustainability, and national defense. Job Description Postdoctoral Appointee Job Summary The Post-Doctoral Appointee Program is designed to recruit outstanding Ph.D. applicants to assist a line organization in meeting its mission objectives and to provide a professional technical work environment for the employee. The Ph.D. must have been conferred within one to five years prior to employment. These assignments are for a one-year period, with the option at management¿s discretion to serve no more than five additional one-year assignments. The Materials Physics Department at Sandia National Labs is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on solid state electronic and electrochemical materials. Materials systems and technologies of interest include materials for solid state Li-ion batteries, solid-state ionic and nano-ionic materials and devices, and solid state electronic and optoelectronic materials and devices. The work will involve device fabrication, electrical and structural characterization, and theory and modeling, with particular emphasis on exploring novel architectures for solid-state ionic/electronic devices and fundamental understanding of ionic and electronic charge transport. The candidate should be self-motivated, able to work independently, and contribute creatively to team efforts. The candidate will be expected to present results at national/international meetings and publish research in high profile peer-reviewed journals. Required PhD degree in materials science, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering or a closely related field Experience in micro/nano device fabrication, characterization, or electrical transport measurements A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences Highest degree received not more than five years prior to the date of application and all degree requirements completed before starting the appointment |
