At the TU Dresden, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Sciences, Institute of General Ecology and Environmental Protection, the Chair of Biodiversity and Nature Conservation offers a position as

Member of academic staff / Postdoc (E 13 TV-L)

starting at 01.12.2014. The duration of the appointment is 3 years. The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG).

Tasks: The successful candidate will develop and apply new and innovative approaches and methods for the use of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) in biodiversity and nature conservation research in forest ecosystems. Currently TLS is used in our lab to assess individual-tree dendrometrics. She/he will apply for research grants and publish scientific papers in internationally peer-reviewed journals. Teaching at the BSc. and MSc.-level with a teaching load of 2 semester hours per week is required. Furthermore, supervision of Bachelor and Master theses is expected.

Requirements: university and PhD degree in forest science, environmental science, geosciences, ecology or a related field; several peer-reviewed publications; specific knowledge and experiences in acquisition and analysis of scan data; sound knowledge in statistics; fluent in English; ability to work in a team and strong analytical skills.
