Advanced Biopharmaceutical Technologies – ‘Facility of the Future’, The Plastic Factory, Enabling Single Use Technologies’**
The Position:
As a postdoctoral research associate in the NIBRT Characterisation and Comparability Laboratory you will join a multidisciplinary team whose focus is to develop and apply new analytical technologies to enable a better understanding of mammalian cell bioprocessing through complete process and product characterisation. The NIBRT Characterisation and Comparability Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral research associate to join the team on an externally funded collaborative research project. Working closely with the Principal Investigator, you will develop and standardise methods for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of extractable and leachable (E&L) compounds from single use components used in industrial bioprocessing. You will apply these methods to evaluate whether the effects of standard manipulations performed during usage, i.e., wet or dry welding, light exposure, sterilisation or rinsing prior to inoculation have any effect on the repertoire of E&L compounds extracted from these plastic components. You will also evaluate large scale extraction, purification and or synthesis of identified E&L compounds to facilitate subsequent toxicity testing, process and product interference analysis and analytical method interference analysis in collaboration with other project team members. You will also create and populate a web database with identified E&L compounds from different single use technology components to serve as a public resource for extractable compound annotation within industry.
Your Profile:
Applicants must hold a PhD in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry or a related discipline. Applicants who have submitted their research thesis for examination will also be considered provided they can provide evidence of a confirmed date for their viva voce examination. Proven experience demonstrated through peer-reviewed publication of analytical methods, in particular liquid chromatography mass spectrometry based methods, for the structural elucidation of small molecules or process contaminants is essential. Experience within the biopharmaceutical industry or a demonstrated understanding of biomanufacturing processes including mammalian cell culture, therapeutic protein expression and protein purification are highly desirable. A flexible work approach, ability to work effectively within an international, multidisciplinary team and a demonstrated commitment to excellence are essential. You will be expected to present your results at international conferences and publish in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
