Applications are invited for a 3 year training position within the Physical Activity Epidemiology Programme at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, a department within the Clinical School at the University of Cambridge. The MRC Epidemiology Unit studies the genetic, developmental and environmental factors that cause obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders and contributes to the prevention of these disorders.
The Unit is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral Career Development Fellow with an interest and experience in physical activity and fitness epidemiology, with an emphasis on the latter. A key project will be involvement in an already approved proposal to derive cardiorespiratory fitness estimates in UK Biobank (N>75,000 with exercise test) and relate these to metabolic disease markers and endpoints.
The successful candidate is educated to PhD level in epidemiology or similar subject, has a MSc or BSc in exercise science/physiology, and ideally previous post-doc experience. S/he will have experience in statistical analysis of epidemiological datasets and in-depth knowledge of fitness assessment, as well as knowledge of the descriptive epidemiology of fitness and the aetiological epidemiology of fitness and its relation to disease. S/he will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have experience of presenting scientific work, together with experience of working both independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a team.
