Postdoctoral Position in the Section of Genetic Medicine, Department of Medicine at the Univeristy of Chicago : Chicago, IL, United States
A postdoctoral research position is available immediately in Dr. Minoli Perera’s laboratory in the Department of Medicine, Section of Genetic Medicine. Dr. Perera’s laboratory focuses on the pharmacogenomics of drug response and hepatic drug metabolism in minority populations. Planned studies include use of molecular pharmacology, molecular genetics and pharmacokinetic techniques as well as an experience with bioinformatic analysis to predict phenotype/genotype associations. These studies are being performed within the rich scientific environment at The University of Chicago. The Perera lab collaborates with colleagues in the sections of Hematology/Oncology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology as well as several highly regarded peer institutions such as Stanford, University of Florida, and George Washington University. There are seminars, journal clubs, retreats, and other opportunities for intellectual interactions and collaborations. Candidates with experience in performing translational studies with pharmacogenomics dataset are a plus. Expectations for this position are listed below.
- Manages their own project, which should lead to a first author publication.
- Develops proficiency in their chosen scientific discipline/field.
- Develops proficiency in their technical skills.
- Develops proficiency in their ancillary skills, e.g. writing, public speaking, networking, critical evaluation of scientific documents, etc.
- Presents scientific work both inside and outside the University.
- Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
- Prepares and submits papers on research.
- Assists in the design of research experiments.
- Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.
- Conscientious discharge of his/her research responsibilities.
- Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
- Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.
- Engages in open and timely discussion with his/her mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
- Collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
- Adherence to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations.
Requirement for the position include a Ph.D. and /or Pharm.D or M.D. degree with past laboratory research experience with an emphasis on clinical pharmacology, pharmacogenomics, or pharmaceutical sciences. US citizens or permanent residents preferred. Candidates must have no more than 3 years prior post-doctoral training to be considered.
