Postdoctoral Research Associate in Bioinorganic Chemistry : York, United Kingdom

UNIVERSITY OF YORK

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Bioinorganic Chemistry
(Ref: 3733)

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the BBSRC-funded project – ‘Dissecting and exploiting lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases’, led by Professors Paul Walton and Gideon Davies, Department of Chemistry, University of York.

The project focuses on the biochemistry and chemistry of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs), with the aim of uncovering new enzymes with high utility against diverse substrates and enhancing the value of these enzymes in industrial biomass conversion.

This appointment will suit a person with experience in bioinorganic chemistry and/or chemical biology. Working in close collaboration with another PDRA on the project who will concentrate on the biological aspects of LPMOs, this position will explore the spectroscopy and reactivity of the copper-active site of LPMOs, focusing on EPR, resonance Raman spectroscopies, and EXAFS/XANES work.

Applicants are expected to have an appropriate PhD level qualification commensurate with the job description for the post.

Salary will be in the range £30,434 to £37,394 a year. The post is fixed-term for a period of up to 36 months and will be available from October 2014.
