The Cardiovascular Research Program at VARI is led by Dr. Stefan Jovinge and the overall objective of the group is to establish new regenerative treatments towards heart disease.
In the line of this work heart development is investigated as well as external sources of pluripotent cells as well as strategies to bring these into safe therapeutic regimens. The Group has been working on mouse as well as human embryonic stem cells and iPSC.
Previously the heart was considered as an end-terminally differentiated organ without any regenerative capacity. We have established that there is an inherent capacity to generate cardiomyocytes in the adult individual. Thus, one of the main missions of the group is to identify this source of adult regeneration and understand how this could be stimulated.
The Jovinge Group is seeking a highly motivated PhD graduate for a Postdoctoral Researcher position. Human iPSC line generation is a crucial part of our work and the lab focuses extensively on wild-type as well as genetically modified iPSC clones.
This Postdoc Researcher will be responsible for developing a project with the aim of unraveling the most efficient delivery route and cell type to use to generate myocardium in situ. This person will also be responsible for transferring knowledge and technology developed to others in the group.
Description of a Successful Candidate:
o A recent Ph.D. graduate with demonstrated experience in iPSC technology and vector cloning.
o The work in the group is characterized by high level of integrity and validity as well as good team spirit and we therefore expect you to be too.
o A hands-on researcher and a natural collaborator comfortable interacting at all levels
o A team player who proactively shares knowledge and expertise with lab members
o A detail oriented researcher who still keeps a clear grasp of the big picture
o A driven individual who is able to exhibit exceptional research productivity and a strong work ethic
o Must provide at least three (3) letters of recommendation.
Job Functions:
Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) provides postdoctoral training opportunities to scientists beginning their research careers. The fellowships are to help promising scientists advance their knowledge and research experience and at the same time support the research endeavors of VARI under the mentorship of a VARI Faculty member.
While this project is currently funded, an integral part of postdoctoral training is the process of preparing a research proposal and writing a fellowship application. All VARI Postdoctoral
Fellows are encouraged to apply for external funding as soon as it is practical and reasonable after hire. Receiving a fellowship award provides recognition for both the fellow and VARI!
Position Status and Salary:
