Within imec’s Life Science department, research activities focus on the development of novel tools for diagnostic health care applications. Those technologies include lab-on-chip systems as well as improved detection systems to measure DNA/RNA, protein and cell level, directly from body liquids. Such technologies require a multidisciplinary approach within a team that has expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and surface chemistry. We aim at research at the highest international level and with relevance for the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industry.
Job description
We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher to support our projects in life science technologies from the point of signal and image processing and interpretation. Projects include selection, design and implementation of image and signal processing algorithms for the next generations of point of care diagnostic systems using high resolution lens free microscopy imaging and/or spectroscopic analysis.
The main responsibilities of this position cover the execution of a challenging research project, funded by the European Research Council on an innovative high throughput cell inspection method in close collaboration with biologists, optical system engineers and system software and hardware engineers. Whereas the core skill is mathematical algorithmic implementations in software, a keen interest to work together with colleagues to solve hardware and experimental problems is required.
Profile
You have a PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Physics, Chemistry or Engineering.
You have 2 to 5 years of experience in biosignal and image processing.
You have a proven innovative track record and solid fundamental knowledge in the relevant fields of algorithm development e.g. holographic imaging reconstruction algorithms, image segmentation, pattern matching, classification, feature extraction, statistical data analysis, machine learning, spectroscopic curve modeling and signal processing in general, and concrete experience with images and signals coming from biological objects such as cells and tissues.
You are a self-starter and a hands-on person.
You have excellent communication and reporting skills.
You can easily integrate in a multidisciplinary team within global context.
Fluent English communication skills are required.
This postdoctoral position is funded by imec through the KU Leuven. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not taken into account).
We offer
We offer a challenging position for 2 years in an advanced high-tech environment and in an international, interdisciplinary team. This is your opportunity to contribute to technologies that will have an impact on the society of tomorrow. The salary is competitive. Furthermore, imec offers various training possibilities and social services, such as a company restaurant, the possibility of day care nearby and discounts in different sport clubs and shops.
