The Department of Sociology is seeking an outstanding quantitative researcher to work with Professor David Stuckler to evaluate the health effects of economic and political factors on global health.
The post is full-time on a fixed-term contract for 30 months, however the start date is flexible and can be negotiated.
The role will involve assessing resilience to health effects of economic and social changes in the context of recessions and natural policy experiments worldwide, taking responsibility for leading several cross-national and multi-level analyses using secondary datasets. The postholder will be expected to prepare working theories and develop and test new research methodologies as well as carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in other University departments and partner institutions. The successful candidate will be engaged in writing research proposals on related topics and will be expected to manage their own academic research.
The successful candidate will hold or expect to obtain a PhD or DPhil in sociology, social demography, social epidemiology, or related social science. Training and expertise in analysing secondary data, strong quantitative analysis skills and proficiency in using STATA and EndNote are essential. Candidates will be required to show evidence of developing a track record of excellent quality publications in highly-ranked peer-reviewed academic journals and/or major presses.
