Adherent Invasive Escherichia coli, a newly emerged pathogen, is a bacterium that is highly associated with Crohn’s disease patients and is under investigation for its role in initiating and perpetuating Crohn’s Disease in susceptible hosts. The main objective of the project is to understand the role of type VI protein secretion systems in the virulence of adherent invasive Escherichia coli and to develop novel therapeutics that target this possible trigger of Crohn’s disease. Candidates must have a PhD in Microbiology or a relevant discipline with an emphasis in Microbiology. A strong molecular microbiology background as well as experience with gene regulation and expression assays, site-directed mutagenesis, and protein-protein interaction studies is desirable.
