英国洛桑研究所招聘科学统计方向博士后
SCIENTIFIC STATISTICIAN
Rothamsted Research is the largest agricultural research centre in the United Kingdom and almost certainly the oldest agricultural research station in the world. Its scientific research ranges from studies of genetics, biochemistry, cell biology and soil processes to investigations at the ecosystem and landscape scale. Rothamsted Research is now an independent research establishment undertaking research on behalf of BBSRC and other funders.
A postdoctoral/postgraduate scientific statistician is required within the Computational and Systems Biology Department (CSYS) to work with the recently appointed Head of the Applied Statistics Group, Andrew Mead. Within CSYS we research and develop mathematical, statistical and computational solutions to biological problems at all levels of biological scale.
The Applied Statistics Group is active in statistical collaboration, consulting, training and research associated with all areas of Rothamsted science. Rothamsted statisticians have a long tradition of collaborating on the design and analysis of field experiments, but increasingly our focus is shifting towards ‘omics data from lab studies. Experience in the analysis of ‘omics data and in the application of Bayesian methods would be a particularly valuable addition to the group.
The successful applicant will act as liaison statistician for an identified group of scientists, and be expected to develop expertise in particular application areas by building up long-term collaborations. The post-holder will also be involved in the development and delivery of statistical courses within the institute.
A broad working knowledge of applied statistics is required; experience related to the plant sciences would be an advantage. Knowledge of the GenStat statistical package would be an advantage, though is not essential. Experience in small-group teaching would be beneficial, as would experience of working in multidisciplinary research teams.
This appointment is a full time post within Band D or E with a starting salary normally in the region of £29,547 to £41,028 per annum depending upon the experience and profile of the candidate.
