Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship with specialisation in the philosophy of psychiatry, to work on the project Therapeutic Conflicts: Co-Producing Meaning in Mental Health, hosted by the Faculty of Philosophy, and supported by the Wellcome Trust, the Oxford University John Fell Fund and the Laces Trust. The postholder, who will occupy an office at Radcliffe Humanites, will work under the supervision of the project’s Director, Dr Edward Harcourt. The Fellowship is for the period 1 October 2014 to 30 September 2015.
The postholder will be expected to conduct collaborative and individual research into the scope and limits of co-production – the idea that service users (patients and carers) work together in an equal relationship with clinicians and other service providers - in the delivery of mental health services, in a way consistent with the project’s theoretical orientation, and to publish and disseminate the research results. The postholder will also contribute to the project in other ways, for example, by helping to organise two conferences on the project, by developing grant applications, and by assisting in the organisation of Mind, Value & Mental Health: The 2nd Oxford Summer School in Philosophy and Psychiatry in July 2015.
The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of research appropriate to their career stage in the philosophy of psychiatry, and expertise in either moral philosophy or feminist philosophy (with special reference to philosophy of language and/or epistemology) or both. By 1 October 2014, candidates should have received (or have submitted their thesis for) the degree of PhD or equivalent.
This is a fixed-term post.
The closing date is 12.00 noon on Friday 4 July 2014.
