Research Postdoctoral Trainee : Royal Oak, MI, United States

The Research Postdoctoral Trainee will work on LC-MS and NMR Metabolomics projects investigating a variety of human diseases.

Key Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research involving LC-MS and NMR metabolomics, and apply these techniques to the study of human diseases.
  • Further research in basic and medical sciences, while completing postdoctoral training.
  • Coordinate and participate in research projects within the Research Department, assist in grant proposal preparation and publication of findings.
  • Conduct clinical and/or translational research projects under PI's supervision.
  • Participate in preparation of grants, abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and final reports for studies.
  • Analyze LC-MS and NMR metabolomics data (Sieve, TransOmics, MarkerLynx, ACDLabs NMR Processor, Chenomx, Topspin).
  • Document research results. Present findings at departmental meetings and research conferences.
  • Participate in scientific discussions with research team.
  • Carry out routine administrative tasks associated with the research project/s to ensure those project/s are completed on time and within budget. These might include organization of project meetings and documentation, financial control, risk assessment of research activities.
  • Educate and train research personnel (research assistants, residents, fellows, students).
  • Read academic papers, journals and textbooks to keep abreast of developments in own specialty and related disciplines.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • PhD, MD or DO and basic laboratory research experience required.
  • Ability to perform a variety of laboratory procedures.
  • Scientific methodology, mathematical ability, technical writing skills, computer skills (word processing, presentation software, database management).
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • At least 2 years research involving mass spectrometry and NMR.
  • Degree in a relevant Life Sciences subject (e.g. Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences) or a relevant Chemistry subject.
  • Experience in metabolomics research.
  • Experience in applying LC-MS (Orbitrap-MS) and NMR to small molecule metabolite analysis.
  • Knowledge or experience with multivariate statistical software packages (e.g. SIMCA, MATLAB, R etc.).
