Further information
A postdoc is available July 1, 2014, for a computationally oriented crystallographer to join a project developing novel methods for engineering improved protein solubility, stability, and crystallization. These rational, sequence/structure-based methods have already been shown to work more efficiently than previously published methods for improving crystallization via mutagenesis.
Ongoing work will focus on using structural, statistical, and thermodynamic analyses to improve efficiency further and to extend the methods to membrane proteins. While the focus of the project will be methods development, validation will involve de novo crystal-structure determination using proteins purified by the core lab of the Northeast Structural Genomics Consortium (www.nesg.org), and there will be significant latitude in choosing target proteins.
A PhD in a related area is required as well as practical experience in both software development and experimental crystal-structure determination. Preference will be given to candidates who can start immediately. An initial one-year appointment with a possibility of renewal will include access to local housing in Manhattan subsidized by Columbia University. Candidates should e-mail a CV and a list of three potential referees to huntlabjobs@biology.columbia.edu.
