The Position: CSIRO offers PhD graduates an opportunity to launch their scientific careers through our Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) Postdoctoral Fellowships. Successful applicants will work with leaders in the field of science and receive personal development and learning opportunities. Applications are invited for a 3 year OCE Postdoctoral Fellowship in Catalysis and Flow Chemistry. The main responsibilities of this post will be to participate in the discovery and development of novel complexity generating C-C bond forming reactions using visible light photocatalysis and flow chemistry. It will include the screening of novel catalysts, and development of homo- and heterogeneous catalysis methods. A particular focus will be enantioselective transformations. Successful applicants may have backgrounds in organic chemistry, catalysis or flow chemistry. Specifically you will: •Design, develop and undertake experiments focussed on the discovery of novel complexity generating C-C bond forming transformations using visible light photocatalysis. •Develop flow chemistry methods as a tool for enantioselective reaction discovery. •Develop immobilised organic dyes for applications in continuous flow visible light catalysis. •Manage own research and administrative activities, including project management and co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. Location: Clayton, Victoria, Australia Salary: $78K to $88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation (pension fund) Tenure: 3 years Reference: VIC14/01385 To be successful in this position you will need: •A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Organic Chemistry. •Expertise in Organic Chemistry. •Expertise in modern methods of purification and characterisation of organic compounds. •Experience in multi-step copmlex target organic synthesis. •A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment, where successful partnerships and/or outcomes have resulted. The successful appointee must have completed, or will shortly complete, the requirements for a PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline. Owing to terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant Postdoctoral experience.
