Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position to join the School of Medicine to study influenza infection as part of the project ‘The effect of influenza infection on the pathogenesis of acute exacerbations of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis’. The post will contribute to ongoing work within the department of Respiratory Medicine aimed at understanding different aspects of the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. The role of the integrin αvβ6 and the activation of TGFβ are central to the work that is to be undertaken and the succesful applicant will work both in vitro and in vivo to develop viruses as a novel a model of fibrogenesis in the lung.
Candidates must hold a PhD in Respiratory Medicine or related subject, or be near completion, with significant research experience and good organisational skills. An interest in pulmonary fibrosis would be desirable. A strong background in virology, molecular biology, cell biology and fluorescence microscopy would be an advantage.
This post will be based in the Clinical Sciences Building in the City Hospital Nottingham and is available from 1st of May 2014. The post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 1 year.
