Senior Research Fellowship in Traumatic BrainInjury (TBI)

In partnership with The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) of
Queensland, The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) of The University of Queensland
Brisbane, Australia (St Lucia campus), seeks to appoint an academic leader in the
field of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) with the establishment of a $1.5 million Senior
Research Fellowship.

Queensland Brain Institute (QBI)

Established in 2003, QBI (www.qbi.uq.edu.au) is housed on the St Lucia campus of
The University of Queensland (UQ). It is home to more than 250 neuroscientists,
working across a range of disciplines, focused on discovering the fundamental
mechanisms that regulate brain development and function in health and disease.
QBI has state-of-the-art core facilities for super resolution microscopy, flow
cytometry, molecular genetics, histochemistry and cognitive testing.

Over the past decade QBI has positioned itself as one of the world's leading
neuroscience research institutes. It played a key role in contributing to UQ attaining
the highest possible score of 5 for neuroscience, in both the 2010 and 2012 Excellence
in Research for Australia (ERA) reviews, one of only two universities in Australia to
achieve this.

The role

QBI is seeking a leading researcher in the field of TBI who is working with animal
models, and using them to develop imaging tools and identify biomarkers (such as
in CSF and plasma) to assess TBI. It is expected that the successful applicant will take
steps to validate the findings from animal models in humans, with the ultimate goal
of having imaging and diagnostic tools that are available for use in a clinical setting.
The person

Applications are invited from researchers with a strong background in experimental
research in TBI, preferably in the rodent system.
Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for an initial period of five years (renewal
subject to funding and performance) at Research Academic Level C ?E, with a
competitive start-up package, including support staff, equipment and consumables.
The base remuneration will be in the range of $102,782 - $118,514 p.a. (Level C),
$123,758 - $136,344 (Level D), $159,417 (Level E), plus employer superannuation
contributions of up to 17%. Level of appointment will be commensurate with
qualifications, experience and academic achievements.
