美国爱荷华大学卡弗医学院招聘心血管遗传学博士后
Postdoctoral Scholar in Cardiovascular Genetics : Iowa City, IA, United States
An NIH-funded postdoctoral research scholar position is available immediately in the laboratory of Ferhaan Ahmad, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor, in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine. Research in the laboratory is broadly focused on human cardiovascular genetics. Large cohorts of human subjects with heritable cardiovascular disorders, including hypertrophic, dilated, glycogen storage, and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathies and pulmonary arterial hypertension, have been recruited for studies of the underlying genetic and genomic basis of these diseases. In addition, several gene-targeted and transgenic murine models of human mutations and of genes implicated in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease have been constructed and are being studied to elucidate the pathophysiology of cardiac remodeling, both in genetic cardiomyopathies and acquired heart failure such as ischemia-reperfusion injury and diabetic cardiomyopathy. Research in the laboratory ranges from molecular genetics and molecular biology, to basic protein chemistry (such as protein-protein interactions and post-translational modifications in vitro), to cell culture based studies, to measurements of physiological parameters in small animal models of heart failure, to integrative systems biology analyses of “big data.” Opportunities also exist to apply some of the fundamental discoveries made in the laboratory to focused translational human studies.
Duties and responsibilities: The successful candidate will work closely with the principal investigator, as well as other fellows, students, technicians, and clinicians, in a highly collaborative environment integrating clinical and basic science. Depending on his or her interests, the candidate will be expected to perform human molecular genetic studies, genomewide human tissue expression analyses and systems biology studies, mouse experimentation, and/or in vitro cellular and molecular mechanistic studies. He or she will be self-motivated and will be responsible for the experimental design, collecting and analysis of research data, maintaining log books, troubleshooting experiments, and training graduate students and research assistants. He or she will also be responsible for the preparation of manuscripts related to his or her work and keeping up-to-date with the literature.
Education requirement: Candidates must have an M.D. or a Ph.D. degree in a biological science field. Eligible candidates for NIH training grants can also apply. Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
Experience and technical abilities: Laboratory experience in molecular and cell biology and genetics are required. Required technical abilities include cell culture, DNA, RNA and protein extraction, biochemical assays, immunoblot analysis, immunoprecipitation, PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, quantitative real time PCR, cell transfection techniques, knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and experience with handling mice. Desired technical abilities include processing tissue samples, immunohistochemistry, expertise in mouse echocardiography, and/or experience in statistical genetics or computational systems biology.
