Job Description
Sandia National Laboratories is the nation's premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation with major facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Livermore, California. We are a world-class team of scientists, engineers, technologists, post docs, and visiting researchers all focused on cutting-edge technology, ranging from homeland defense, global security, biotechnology, and environmental preservation to energy and combustion research, computer security, and nuclear defense. To learn more, please visit our website at www.sandia.gov. Sandia National Laboratories is searching for a Postdoctoral Appointee to join the Scalable Algorithms team located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Department Description The Scalable Algorithms Department at Sandia National Laboratories conducts research in the areas of mathematics, theoretical computer science and computational science in support of applications at Sandia with a focus on graph and advanced parallel algorithms for performance and scalability on the latest high performance computing architectures. Job Summary Sandia's Scalable Algorithms department is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to develop algorithms for high performance computing. Next generation HPC platforms will require dramatically increased parallelism, heterogeneity and resilience from the scalable algorithmic software. The candidate should have a background in parallel algorithms for the solution of large scale scientific applications particularly systems of PDEs. Combinatorial scientific computing methods background and experience in hybrid parallel programming (MPI, CUDA, threads) is a plus. Post Doc Hiring Program The Post-Doctoral Appointee Program is designed to recruit outstanding Ph.D. applicants to assist a line organization in meeting its mission objectives and to provide a professional technical work environment for the employee. The Ph.D. must have been conferred within one to five years prior to employment. These assignments are for a one-year period, with the option at management's discretion to serve no more than five additional one-year assignments. Extensions of up to six years require employee's manager approval. Six years or greater requires employee's manager and HR VP approval. Required • Applicants must have (or soon have) a Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, or related engineering or science discipline with a record of academic excellence. • Advance object oriented programming experience • Experience in high-performance computing on distributed, parallel, and/or other specialized architectures. • Research experience in your field of expertise as evidenced by presentations, technical publications, released software, and/or work with applications. Desired • Specific programming experience (C++ highly desired; Python and/or Matlab desired) with knowledge of parallel programming such as MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, and/or threads is desirable. • Experience with advanced HPC architectures including many-core or GPU architectures. • Interest and experience in the use of advanced object-oriented software engineering practices and processes (e.g., agile software and test driven development) is desirable. • Experience developing resilient algorithms for high performance computing. • Experience developing linear solvers and multi-level pre conditioners • Communication skills appropriate for participating in multi-disciplinary teams of mathematicians, engineers, and computer scientists. Security Clearance No clearance required. This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment. If hired without a clearance, and one subsequently becomes required or you bid on positions that require a DOE-granted security clearance, a pre-processing background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation. Applicants for DOE-granted security clearances must be U.S. citizens and be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate DOE security clearance as required for the position. |
