The Department of Anesthesiology, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University seeks an Postdoctoral Research Scientist for a trained pain behavioral pharmacologist and biochemist/molecular biologist to study mechanisms of opiate-induced hyperalgesia. We are interested in studying these mechanisms at the peripheral level, so previous experience in the study of the role of primary afferents in pain processes is required. The laboratory integrates the study of the molecular changes induced by drugs of abuse using a combination of state-of-art biochemical and electrophysiological analyses. Candidates must have a PhD in neuroscience, biochemistry, pharmacology or biomedical sciences. Experience with behavioral pharmacology expertise, molecular biology, biochemical techniques is required. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and be willing to collaborate with other groups at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. The position is based in New York City, a vibrant cosmopolitan city.
