Research Fellow in Chemistry

Salary: £30,728 - £33,562 per annum

We seek to appoint a highly talented and motivated postdoctoral research associate with a passion for natural products chemistry.
The successful candidate will join the multidisciplinary research group of Dr Rebecca Goss at the University of St Andrews, funded by a collaborative ERA IB grant. Focusing on natural and new to nature natural products of medicinal significance you will apply synthetic and semisynthetic approaches to analogue generation working in team to combine the most expeditious approaches from synthetic biology and synthetic chemistry. Working alongside other PDRAs and PhDs within the Goss group you will have the opportunity to gain a level of experience in molecular biology, enzymology and medium throughput assay development.
You will have an excellent track record and have completed or be completing a PhD in organic chemistry with your results published or pending publication in leading international scientific journals. You will have an excellent and an advanced practical knowledge of synthetic organic methodologies, excellent skills in reaction and synthetic route design, compound purification and spectroscopic and spectrometric analysis. You will have experience of working with and carrying out analysis on both small and large quantities of material. You will be innovative and quick to master new skills and techniques. You will be a good team worker with excellent communication skills and leadership potential. Strong experience in organometallic cross coupling methodologies, excellent writing skills and experience in the preparation of manuscripts, including supporting information, for publication would be an advantage.
The post is fixed term initially for one year, with the possibility of extension of up to a further two years, and will start as soon as possible.
