The Institute of Philosophy at the University of Leuven invites applications for a one-year part-time postdoctoral position as part of the ERC-project “Not another history of Platonism. The role of Aristotle's criticisms of Plato in the development of ancient Platonism” (Acronym: PlatoViaAristotle), led by Prof. Dr. Jan Opsomer, starting 1 October 2023. The successful applicant will conduct research on the history of ancient Platonism from the perspective of Aristotle's criticism of Plato and his reports on Platonic philosophy. Responsibilities

We are looking for the following profile:

·  mereology in Proclus and Damascius.

·  axiomatisation of metaphysics in Proclus and its reception

In addition to conducting independent and collaborative research on topics relevant to the project, the successful applicant is expected to participate in the common activities, including meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences.

Profile

Requirements:

·  An outstanding PhD thesis in the domain of ancient philosophy.

·  Outstanding hermeneutical and analytical skills

·  Publication(s) in the domain of ancient Platonism.

·  Excellent knowledge of ancient Greek, knowledge of Latin, excellent reading and writing skills in English. Proficiency (very good reading knowledge) in French, German, and/or Italian will strengthen your application.

·  Willingness to work in a collaborative research environment and to work and publish predominantly on the topic of the project.Offer

Successful candidates will be employed at KU Leuven under the standard conditions for Postdoctoral Fellowships. They will be offered a one-year contract. The fellowship provides for social and health benefits, office space, and a budget for research expenses.
