Offer Description
Job description The Yoshimura group has been engaged in conducting multidisciplinary research to develop a new paradigm for cell biology and biophysics. This is achieved by combining various imaging techniques, biophysical approaches, informatics, conventional biochemistry, and molecular biology. By utilizing these multidisciplinary approaches, we address major problems in cell signaling, cell cycle, and virus infections.
Recently, our group has joined a research grant project titled “Multicellular mechanics," which is supported by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. The project aims to understand the mechanobiological principles underlying embryogenesis and tissue morphogenesis. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about contributing to this exciting research project and have a strong interest in pursuing a career in cell biology and biophysics.
Project Scope and Mission The selected candidate will utilize various atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques, such as force measurement and live-cell high-speed imaging, to quantitatively measure forces working within a multi-cellular system. The aim is to understand how these forces regulate the fate or properties of the system. Possible targets include early embryogenesis of C. elegans, heart development of mouse embryos, or neural development of X. laevis, although any other targets will be welcome. The candidate will also collaborate with other groups in the same grant team and assist them in force measurement.
Experiences Having excellent knowledge and proficiency in one or more of the skill sets listed below would be advantageous, though not a prerequisite: • cell culture and embryo-handling (mouse, nematode, fly, frog etc.) • various optical microscope techniques and quantitative image analysis • Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and other Scanning Probe Microscopes (SPMs)
Qualities • Possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work well in an interdisciplinary team • Highly motivated and capable of working independently • Organized, dedicated, and reliable
