The Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs 6,000 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of 16,000 people, including over 10,000 students and 3,500 researchers from 120 different countries.
Postdoctoral researcher in in-silico neuroscience – structure-function
relation (W/M)
Your mission :
The EPFL Blue Brain Project (BBP), situated on the Campus Biotech in Geneva, Switzerland, applies advanced neuroinformatics, data analytics, high- performance computing and simulation-based approaches to the challenge of understanding the structure and function of the mammalian brain in health and disease. The BBP provides the community with regular releases of data, models and tools to accelerate neuroscience discovery and clinical translation through open science and global collaboration.
For our Connectomics team, we are currently seeking a: Postdoctoral Researcher in Simulation Neuroscience (W/M).
Main duties and responsibilities include :
Research and development of computational, analytical and simulation-based approaches, leveraging BBP in-silico models of brain regions, to investigate the representation of stimuli in neural circuits and how it depends on and is implemented by synaptic connections (i.e. the micro- connectome).
Use the BBP pipelines for simulations of voltage sensitive dye (VSD) imaging or local field potentials (LFP) to compare results from the first point to in-vitro and in-vivo data from the literature and predict how these aggregate signals depend on single neuron activity.
Validation and improvement of the BBP models of brain regions to improve their ability to address the questions above.
Carry out programming, simulations and analyses by themselves in these areas of the project
Collaborate and interact with other groups studying these questions, such as the Laboratory for topology and neuroscience at EPFL.
Representation of BBP and presentation of the scientific results in these research areas at conferences and research institutes.
Participation in the writing of articles and of other documents related to the research activities
Collaboration to the general research activities and logistic activities (safety, equipment maintenance, etc.) of the unit
Your profile :
PhD in Neuroscience or related field
Publication record in the field, ideally related to Cortical Circuits, Connectivity & Activity
Strong expertise in programming, especially Python
Ideally experience with supercomputing systems
Strong background in data analysis and statistics
We offer :
A world-recognized leader in simulation-based research in neuroscience
A dynamic, multidisciplinary, international and collaborative working environment committed to benefitting the global community
A modern working environment, based at the Biotech Campus in Geneva Sécheron
Start date : As soon as possible
Term of employment : Fixed-term (CDD)
Duration : 1 year, renewable
Remark : Only candidates who applied through EPFL website or our partner Jobup’s website will be considered.
