The Petritsch lab investigates underlying causes for the intra-tumoral heterogeneity and immune suppression in brain tumors from a developmental neurobiology perspective and with the purpose to prevent malignant progression and overcome therapy resistance in brain tumors. We recruit postdoctoral trainees who are two or less years past their doctorate and who are highly motivated to participate in one or more of the following projects:
Establishing and breaking homeostasis in the brain: Analyse the molecular and cellular mechanisms for establishing cellular hierarchies in the brain, including delineating the mechanism for asymmetric cell division in oligodendrocyte progenitor cells, using a candidate gene approach.
A rational approach to optimize molecular targeted therapy to overcome resistance and immune suppression: molecular characterization of escape from therapies, develop combination therapies and define optimal dosing using novel preclinical models, harnessing the interactions with the tumor immune landscape
We use novel transgenic and virus-induced mouse models and leverage access to surgical material for complementary alternative approaches, e.g. mechanistic investigations in human-derived patient samples, e.g. ex vivo tumor tissue slices, organoids, PDXs or cell lines.
Required skills:
A minimum of two first-author science publications (not counting reviews) in a peer-reviewed journal;
Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
Openness to new technology
Proactive attitude and strong work ethics
Top experimental skills
3 yrs min experience in sterile cell culture techniques
