  Job Description

  Summary

The Center for Drug Discovery (https://www.bcm.edu/research/centers/drug-discovery) is a strategic research center established at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas and is seeking talented postdoctoral associates to participate in chemical biology, drug discovery, male contraception, spermatogenesis, and/or infertility research. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in biochemistry, genetics, reproductive biology, and/or chemical biology, have a strong record of academic and/or industrial distinction and productivity, and be highly motivated. The Matzuk laboratory has NIH and foundation support to understand the genetics of male and female infertility and develop small-molecule contraceptives (see Matzuk et al.Cell 2012, PMC3420011). Central to the CDD's vision is the use of DNA-encoded chemistry to identify compounds for use in contraception. The research will include recombinant protein production, studying genetically engineered mouse models, discovering and utilizing small-molecule compounds for inhibition of novel reproductive tract proteins, troubleshooting problems as they occur, and collaborating with scientists in the CDD and BCM to mechanistically define the molecular functions of key spermatogenic proteins and accelerate successful drug discovery. BCM is located in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center and offers a highly interactive environment and a strong infrastructure for research and career development.
