TB remains a serious global health problem and there is an urgent need for new therapeutic agents and an increased understanding of antibiotic resistance. The Parish Lab is looking for a post-doctoral scientist to work on a tuberculosis drug discovery project. The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary research environment interacting with chemists and biologists. The main research project is to determine the mode of action of new compounds classes under development as TB drugs. Work will also involve target identification, confirmation, and validation, as well as determining mechanisms of drug resistance.
Description of Responsibilities:
Conduct a research and development project
Design and implement research plans
Work under Biosafety Level 3 conditions with Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Troubleshoot and solve experimental and technical problems
To prepare and present papers, reports, and presentations of current research work
Write manuscripts and assist with grant preparation
Write standard protocols and validation data packages
Oversee quality control and data integrity
May supervise one or more research assistants
Specific duties include:
Conduct research into mechanism of kill of new inhibitors
Use multiple approaches to identify and validate drug targets
Research into mode of resistance of new inhibitors
Run a wide range of microbiological and cellular assays
Culture and genetic manipulation of mycobacteria
