Laboratory of Clinical Investigation/Diabetes Section
Position Description:
A postdoctoral position in the Diabetes Section under Josephine M. Egan, M.D., Chief and Clinical Director, is available at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), located in Baltimore, Maryland.
The post-doctoral position is primarily focused on the study of the signaling pathways resulting in differentiation of human endocrine precursor cells to mature organ specific cells.
The focus of the Diabetes Section is to investigate the metabolic and physiologic alterations that occur in pre-diabetic states and elucidate the underlying etiopathology to develop effective strategies to prevent the transition to diabetes, using both human and animal models. The Diabetes Section is within the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation (LCI), along with the Lipids and Peroxidation Unit, Neuroscience Unit, Lymphocyte Development Unit and the Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Section. The common theme among these research groups is the identification and development of new therapeutic targets for the treatment of age-related diseases, both within the laboratory and across the Intramural Research Program.
Required Experience:
We are seeking independent, self-motivated and enthusiastic candidates with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with less than 5 years of postdoctoral experience. Qualified candidates must possess good oral and written communication skills with demonstrated expertise in cellular and molecular biology, and biochemistry. Ability to collaborate on research projects in a collegial environment and to follow GLP is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in diabetes and metabolism, and/or adult stem cell differentiation.
These positions are guaranteed for two years with the possibility of annual renewal up to a maximum of five years. NIH offers excellent salary and health care packages to its trainees and has consistently been ranked among the best places to work for postdoctoral fellows.
