Postdoctoral Fellowship in Epidemiology/Genetic Epidemiology Institute for Genomic Medicine, Neurological Institute, and Biogen, Idec. : New York, NY, United States
The Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM) and the Neurological Institute at Columbia University (CU), in partnership with Biogen, are seeking to hire a postdoctoral fellow in epidemiology/genetic epidemiology to join an ambitious series of studies focused on using large-scale population sequence data to dissect the genetic causes of human diseases with a particular focus on neurodegenerative diseases.
The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of investigators analyzing many thousands of exomes of patients and population controls and will have primary responsibilities focused on integrating clinical and epidemiological data into sophisticated models to identify causal genetic variants for disease. Together with statistical and molecular geneticists, the incumbent will assess how genetic variants influence complex phenotypic data including clinical measures, transcriptomic data, cfRNA/DNA and imaging data.
The successful candidate will be jointly supervised by Dr. David Goldstein, Director of the Institute for Genomic Medicine, Dr. Richard Mayeux, Chair of the Neurological Institute, and Dr. John Carulli of Biogen. The position will be based full time at CUMC, but there will be significant opportunity for interaction with Biogen scientists.
This represents an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the rapidly expanding field of precision medicine and therapeutic discovery. In particular, these positions offer the opportunity of working within a leading genomic medicine institute in close partnership with a leading biotechnology company, allowing candidates to participate in the full spectrum of precision medicine from target discovery and validation through to drug development. Incumbents will be employees of Columbia University and eligible for Columbia University programs and benefits while simultaneously benefitting from the IGM's alliance with Biogen.
