Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, 24 months
Extent: 100 %

First day of employment: April 1, 2016, or by agreement
Reference number: PER 2015/427

Research at the Environmental Medicine unit at the Section of Occupational and Environmental Health has a focus on the physical and chemical environment and its influence on human health. The present project focuses on assessment of the health consequences of human exposure to perfluorinated compounds in drinking water. Part of the research group is placed in Gothenburg at the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM), and part at the division of OEM at Lund University, with further academic input from the Karolinska Institute and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Subject area
Environmental Epidemiology

Specific subject description
In a municipality in southern Sweden around 1/3 of all households had for decades drinking water heavily contaminated by perfluorinated drinking water. The situation can thus be described as a ?natural experiment? in a homogenous population. A large biobank has been established for assessment of exposure and outcomes. We also have a large retrospective cohort for registry studies, consisting of all inhabitants ever residing in the municipality since start of exposure. Substudies focus on metabolomics, epigenetics, and kinetics.

Job assignments
The position involves research on an established biobank in terms of advanced biostatistical modelling exploring the relation between measured and modelled exposures, and health outcomes. It may also include cohort studies in large databases using registry information on health outcomes. Scientific results will be published and disseminated.

There will be teaching possibilities, but formal duties are limited.

Eligibility
To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in epidemiology/biostatistics or equivalent academic fields. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.

Assessment
We put great weight on extensive experience in biostatistical modeling of epidemiological data. We especially invite applicants with a background in biomedicine and human health sciences who have experience in research on environmental health. Fluency in English is required; fluency in Swedish is not a prerequisite….
