Queen's School of Engineering
Based in the Dynamics & Control Group within the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bristol this is an exciting opportunity to join a strong team participating in a new European Horizon 2020 Transport project entitled: “Flutter Free FLight Envelope eXpansion for ecOnomical Performance improvement (FLEXOP)”.
The FLEXOP project will start in June 2015 for three years and a half, and is participated by a consortium of 9 partners including industrial partners such as Airbus Group Innovations (Germany and UK), FAAC AG (Austria), INASCO (Greece), research centers SZTAKI (Hungary) and DLR (Germany), and the universities from Bristol (UK), Delft (Netherlands) and Munich (Germany). Its objective is to exploit the coupling between aeroelasticity, flutter and active controls by moving to an integrated design approach of wing aeroelastic tailoring and flight control, enabling significant performance increase of future derivative aircraft. Towards this goal an unmanned demonstrator aircraft (MTOW
Your task will be to investigate robust control methods for in-flight estimation and analysis of flutter in order to provide a continuous understanding and robust prediction of the flutter margins. You will be in charge of their development, software implementation and verification, as well as supporting the hardware implementation for testing of the methods in the FLEXOP flexible wing demonstrator. You will be working with other Post-Doctoral Researchers, Postgraduates and the Faculty members in the University of Bristol FLEXOP team.
This post is offered on a fixed term contract for 2 years in the first instance with starting date of June 2015.
It is anticipated that interviews will take place during April 2015.
