Postdoc in the field of neutron scattering on magnetic materials (M/F)
The University of Luxembourg invites applications for the following vacancy in its Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication. The Nanomagnetism Group has an immediate opening for a Postdoc. We are looking for a candidate with experience in the field of neutron scattering on magnetic materials.
Postdoc in the field of neutron scattering on magnetic materials (M/F)
- Ref. F1-120006
- Fixed-term contract (2+2) years, full-time (40 hrs/week)
- Employee status
The Postdoc will carry out fundamental research in the field of magnetic neutron scattering (small-angle neutron scattering) on magnetic materials (NdFeB magnets, nanoparticles, ferrofluids, etc.). Defects in the microstructure of magnetic materials give rise to a deviation of the magnetization from the perfectly aligned state. The resulting spin misalignment results in a strong magnetic neutron-scattering signal along the forward direction, which can measured by means of the SANS technique. A central objective is to compute/model the ensuing spin textures by means of the continuum theory of micromagnetics and to compare these predictions to experimental neutron data; experimental as well as some theoretical/computational skills are required. This research project contributes to the understanding of the fundamental aspects of magnetic SANS. The Postdoc will be a member of the Nanomagnetism Group and will be supervised by Associate Prof. Dr. Andreas Michels: He or she will co-supervise Bachelor/Master/PhD students.
