摘要:

•Exciting new highly collaborative role in Australia's premier science & technology research organisation!
•Characterise the interaction of a cellular enzyme with Hendra virus proteins.
•Join a cross-disciplinary team with expertise in virology, molecular/cell biology and protein chemistry

The Position:

Postdoctoral Fellows at CSIRO provide opportunities to scientists and engineers, who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships will help launch their careers, provide experience that will enhance their career prospects, and facilitate the recruitment and development of potential leaders for CSIRO.

CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering is seeking to appoint a highly motivated graduate. The Fellow will join a cross-disciplinary team with expertise in virology, molecular/cell biology and protein chemistry to study the biochemical and functional interaction of host and viral proteins during the course of viral infection and replication.

Specifically you will:
•Characterise the interaction of cellular proteins with proteins from Hendra virus and related paramyxoviruses.
•Establish the role played by key host proteins in virus replication and pathogenesis using mutagenesis and gene knock-down technologies.
•Develop small molecule inhibitors of host-virus interactions as next generation antiviral strategies.
•Undertake regular reviews of relevant literature and patents.
•Produce high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents.
•Prepare appropriate conference papers and present those at conferences as agreed with your supervisor.

Location: Parkville, Victoria, Australia

To be successful in this position you will have:
•A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as molecular biology, protein chemistry or microbiology/virology.
•A track record of achievement in molecular biology, virology or protein chemistry.
•Demonstrated high level skills in protein characterisation and cell biology techniques.
•Demonstrated ability to analyse information, with excellent written and oral communication skills in the form of scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals and conference presentations.
•A record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
