Postdoctoral position in Food and Nutrition Science : Gothenburg, Sweden
The position is based on a scholarship, and the position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Description
This post doc position is a part of a recently started Nordic project entitled "Extracting Novel Values from Aqueous Seafood Side Steams -NoVAqua". This project addresses the fact that significant amounts of valuable biomolecules are lost in process waters from the seafood industry, and very few attempts have been made to turn such aqueous side streams into revenue. In NoVAqua different routes will be explored to take valuable compounds in aqueous side streams to the market. The project consits of three main parts; (i) retrieval of compositional data of a selection of aqueous seafood side streams to illustrate their values and to underpin suggested routes for commercialization, (ii) application of mild technology to recover a marine biomass which will be evaluated as aquafeed and (iii) exploring of a number of direct uses of the side streams e.g. for cultivation of microorganisms. The project has great potential to increase the environmental and economic sustainability of seafood producers and to stumulate a more circular economy. The project is a collaboration between Chalmers, DTU in Denmark, GU, two seafood producers and one aquafeed producer. The post doc will have a central role in the project, collaborating with all partners and being active in all three project parts. Your major responsibilities are: • To coordinate the sampling of different seafood process waters and to subject them to chemical analyses in order to map their micro-/macronutrient profile . • To take active part in the fractionation trials and to chemically and physically characterize the recovered biomass. • To study quality and shelf life (e.g. lipid oxidation) in products containing fractions originating from seafood process waters. • To coordinate the writing of reports and scientific publications within Chalmers part of the project. To actively take part in project meetings and perform oral presentations from the project e.g. at conferences.
