A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Department of Pathology, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Our laboratory utilizes unique HLA transgenic mouse model of multiple sclerosis (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis- EAE) to understand the mechanism by which HLA class II molecules regulate immunopathogenesis of MS. In a related project we utilize HLA transgenic mice to understand the role of gut microbiome in MS and test ability of human gut derived bacteria as drug (BRUG) as a novel therapeutic agent(s) to suppress disease . We are particularly interested in the mechanism by which human commensal modulate systemic immune response in EAE model leading to development of tolerance. Candidates with a strong background in Immunology and/or microbiology, with hand-on experience in mouse model of autoimmunity, primary cell culture, bacterial culture, flow cytometry, and molecular techniques are encouraged to apply.

Required qualifications include PhD, or MD/PhD, good communication and writing skills in English.
