Postdoctoral Fellow in Environmental Metabolomics : Toronto, Canada
A two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the area of Environmental Metabolomics is available in the research group of Professor Myrna Simpson at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The candidate will join an active research program in the development of NMR and MS methods for measuring bioindicators of ecosystem health using metabolomic approaches. The candidate will have direct access to novel NMR technology in the Environmental NMR Centre; Canada’s only NMR facility dedicated to environmental research. This includes two spectrometers that can acquire metabolomics data in automation and a third spectrometer designed for novel, in vivo approaches. A cryoprobe was also installed in August of 2014 for enhanced detection of metabolites. Prof. M. Simpson’s group is also in the process of purchasing a LC-MS/MS which will be used for the development of high throughput metabolomic studies for monitoring of ecosystem health in addition to NMR-based studies.
Only applicants with a PhD in Chemistry and a strong background in Environmental and Analytical Chemistry (or a closely related field) will be considered. Previous experience in metabolomics and with NMR and MS is also desired. Applicants can apply to this position by sending: 1) Cover letter, 2) CV, and 3) Names and contact information for 3 referees by email to Prof. Myrna Simpson. The candidate will be expected to publish and present their work at various venues and must have excellent written and oral communication skills. The position is available immediately but will remain open until filled. …
