摘要:
Postdoctoral Fellowship on the Genetics and Epigenetics of Painful Neuropathy : Johannesburg, South Africa

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratories of Peter Kamerman (School of Physiology, University of the Witwatersrand) and Zané Lombard (Sydney Brenner Institute for Molecular Biosciences, University of the Witwatersrand) to conduct research on “genetic and epigenetic risk factors for painful HIV-associated sensory neuropathy (HIV-SN)”.

Not everyone with HIV-SN has pain, and in those individuals who have painful HIV-SN the intensity of the pain can vary substantially between individuals. In small-scale studies we have identified novel genetic associations with pain intensity in HIV-SN. The fellowship will entail in-depth symptom and sensory phenotyping of a cohort of patients with HIV-SN, the use of bioinformatics to identify and refine genetic targets in an African population, and analysis of genetic and epigenetic risk factors across various aspects of patients’ pain profiles.

Minimum requirements:
A PhD degree (obtained within the last 5 years). Previous research experience in human genetics or bioinformatics, and experience working with human study participants, would be an advantage.

The fellowship is awarded for one year, with renewal for a second and third year subject to performance.

Your application must include:

  • A curriculum vitae (4 pages maximum)
  • A cover letter (2 pages maximum) indicating how your knowledge and skills would align to the research topic and what your expectations are should you be successful.
  • Contact details for three potential academic referees

Email any queries or your application to peter.kamerman@wits.ac.za by 15 January 2015. Short listing will take place in January and interviews will be scheduled for February 2015. …
