Postdoctoral research positions are available in the laboratories of Drs. Brian Sorrentino and Mitchell J. Weiss in the Department of Hematology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to study molecular mechanisms of hematopoiesis and blood disorders. Specific projects include: 1) regulation of hematopoietic gene expression by noncoding RNAs; 2) The role of protein degradation in red blood cell formation; 3) Use of induced pluripotent stem cells to model non-malignant blood disorders and leukemia; 4) Mechanisms of fetal globin gene induction; 5) Gene expression and function within endothelial cells, 6) Development of lentiviral gene therapy for immunodeficiency and globin gene disorders, 7) Molecular mechanisms and treatment of high risk ALL in animal models. Our ultimate goals are to make fundamental scientific discoveries that inform new therapies for pediatric blood diseases.
