A postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston to investigate the unusual mechanism of cytokinesis in trypanosome, an early branching microbial eukaryote, with a focus on the role of Polo-like kinase in mediating cytokinesis initiation. The project is at the interface of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, and requires a recent Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology or closely related field. Applicants must be self-motivated with good communication skills and demonstrated experience (i.e. relevant publications in cell cycle regulation). Experience with protein purification and characterization, immunoprecipitation, in vitro kinase assay, immunofluorescence microscopy, gene knockout/knock-in, and RNAi is required. Prior experience with Trypanosoma brucei is a plus but not necessary. Salary will be commensurate with experience and is in addition to a generous fringe benefit package.
