摘要:
We are opening a Research Postdoc Position to work on the development of data mining techniques for the characterization of MapReduce environments. The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Science department. The project will be a joint effort with a team of researchers from Microsoft Redmond. The project may also fit the work of a Master Thesis. Candidates must be interested in starting a research career in the scope of an international team.
The project will focus on the creation of performance models based on the automatic analysis of several hundred gigabytes of execution logs from Hadoop, both on local premises as well as in the cloud (mostly Azure). The data is collected and exposed through a portal (hadoop.bsc.es), which is an open data set. The challenge for the candidate will be to extract knowledge from the analysis of the existing data. Clustering techniques, neural networks (in particular deep learning) and other machine learning approaches will be particularly valuable. Knowledge of highly distributed platforms, such as Hadoop, Spark, Cassandra or Storm will be also a plus.
We’re looking for highly talented and motivated candidates, willing to face great research challenges.

Main Responsibilities
• Generation of online supervised learning techniques (primarily focusing on deep learning approaches) to characterize MapReduce workloads in different hardware platforms (Ethernet, Infiniband, Rotational Disks, Solid State Disks, CPUs, #cores…) and running different applications
• Extension of performance modeling suite from BSC to deal with BigData workloads
• Develop learning algorithms on top of large scale distributed platforms (Mahout, SOA)
• Supervision of PhD students
Skill Specifications
• Strong Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques and/or performance modeling methods
• Strong Knowledge of application and development of Cloud Computing applications
• Knowledge of Apache Hadoop, Pig, and/or Hive
• Knowledge of application and development of Cloud Computing applications
• Fluency in English essential: regular written and spoken communication in English will be required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure
• Ability to work independently and in a team
Qualifications & Experience
• Holding or pursuing a PhD in Computer Sciences, Telecommunications or related discipline
• Capacity to interact and build strong relations with a diverse members/stakeholder/staff base.
• Willing to travel
Work Conditions
• The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences department in collaboration with the specific program coordinator.
• The contract will be for 1 year initially, linked to the project.
• We offer the opportunity to join a dynamic team with a good working environment with a competitive salary in Barcelona.
Application Procedure
Interested candidates, please submit:
• Presentation letter
• Curriculum vitae
• Candidates may optionally submit a software portfolio (links to developed applications or a public software repository).
