The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £ 33,353 – £40,313 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
The successful candidate will have the key responsibility for the engineering development of a novel implantable polymer based glaucoma device for patient use. As part of a multidisciplinary team, he/she will focus on the fluid mechanics of the device prototypes, laboratory-based device fabrication (requiring CAD and mould design) and optimisation of both device and processing parameters. The successful candidate will characterise device prototype material and physicochemical properties. With guidance, they will ensure high standards of documentation meeting regulatory requirements; advice junior team members; draft reports, manuscripts and grants.
The position is funded until 31 July 2017 in the first instance.
PhD in engineering with specific background in fluid mechanics and postdoctoral experience in a research environment. A skilled experimentalist with design and bench testing experience is essential since the post will involve a substantial amount of laboratory-based research. Expert level use and application of computer aided design and engineering software. Experience of working in cross-functional project teams with the ability to draw on multi-disciplinary expertise for device design and development. The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7.
