Advancing Microbial Electrochemistry: Characterisation of the CymA Interactome in Shewanella oneidensis.

Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 (MR-1) is a model organism for microbial biotechnologies that offer routes to the production of sustainable electricity, fuel and carbon commodities. Underpinning electron exchange during microbial electrochemistry is CymA, a constitutively expressed menaquinol (MQH2) dehydrogenase. This project will define the CymA interactome and the determinants of electron flux through this network. The results will provide much needed insight into the basis of respiratory versatility in MR-1 and simultaneously address a major bottle-neck to informed engineering of MR-1 for improved, wide-ranging biotechnologies.
