Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Neuroimmunology
Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford
Grade 7: £29,837 - £36,661 p.a.
This Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is funded by a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellowship awarded to Dr Irani. The project aims to characterise aspects of the cellular and humoral immunity of patients with autoantibody-mediated diseases of the central nervous system. This field has been described as the most exciting within contemporary neurology which reflects the ongoing discovery of new autoantibody targets, associated novel clinical phenotypes and the frequent response of the patients to immunotherapies. This is an opportunity to study highly translatable, patient-orientated scientific and therapeutic questions in a laboratory setting. The postholder should hold a PhD. They will be responsible for maintaining and databasing patient blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples and analysing these samples using techniques in which they should have extensive experience including multicolour flow cytometry, lymphocyte culture, cDNA cloning, gel electrophoresis and western blotting. They will be responsible for preparing data for publication. They will be based within Professor Angela Vincent’s laboratory with exposure to clinicians and scientists with broad interests in neuroimmunology and neuroscience. This is a fixed-term post.
