The Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute- DOE JGI (a division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab) has an exciting Postdoctoral Research opportunity available for a Computational Biologist Postdoc. Will work as part of the Microbial Systems Group and Metagenome Program and perform research in microbial community genomics, with a strong emphasis on metagenome assembly and genome binning. Responsibilities include developing, testing, implementing and benchmarking methods for assembling and extracting complete genomes from metagenome sequence data generated from diverse library types (e.g. short and long insert) and sequencing technologies (Illumina HiSeq 2000, Illumina HiSeq 2500 and Pacific Biosciences). Will work closely with collaborators at the University of California, Berkeley and Oak Ridge National Laboratory and facilitate transfer of data, knowledge and software among institutions. Will store and organize results for presentation and viewing by project team members and the wider scientific community and prepare results for publication in scientific journals. Position reports to Microbial Systems Group lead.
