The Islet Cell Research Program within the Division of Transplantation, Department of Surgery, is seeking a Scientist to design and conduct independent research projects focused on innate immunity and islet cell biology.

Responsibilities include:

-Independently review literature, identify research problems and design appropriate research methodologies, techniques and procedures.

-Executing experimental protocols, maintaining records and compliance with our Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and regulatory bodies on campus; will be in charge of the coordination and appropriate collection of samples and the distribution of those samples to our respective collaborators.

-Collecting results and organizing data for appropriate analysis using statistical software packages. The incumbent will also be responsible for analyzing research results and preparing results for presentation at meetings and conferences.

-Supervise and coordinate research staff, including students, technicians and postdoctoral fellows. The incumbent will work closely with all researchers/investigators in conducting and/or developing highly technical and specialized scientific research procedures and experiments using the core facility's equipment and/or services.

-Meet regularly with the PI to discuss laboratory activities.

-Present data at local, regional and national meetings.

-Pursue collaborations with other researchers on the UW campus as needed. Co-author research proposals for grant submission as well as manuscripts for presentation and publication.

-Remain current on state-of-the-art and emerging techniques, software programs and instrumentation in field of expertise.

-Other duties as assigned.

Degree and area of specialization:

PhD required, preferably in immunology, developmental biology, or related fields.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Relevant lab experience preferred.
