摘要:
Our group at the Max-Planck Institute for Biophysical in Göttingen, Germany, (successorship of Prof. Dr. Adam Lange) is interested in solid-state-NMR characterization of biomolecules. A particular focus will be on membrane proteins, targets of highest significance in current structural biology, making use of recent solid-state-NMR methodological breakthroughs. We currently have open positions for postdoctoral fellows and PhD students to characterize important structural and mechanistic features of a series of membrane proteins. We have top-notch equipment and a very good support on the biochemical side, which provides excellent perspectives for successfully tackling exciting problems. The positions can potentially be started immediately. We will aim at high-rank publications just as well as a friendly and inspiring atmosphere among the group.
Requirements
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with strong scientific curiosity, independence and persistence in problem solving who enjoy teamwork. For postdoc positions, you must hold a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics or a related discipline obtained relatively recently, and your research experience should be demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications. Expertise in either solution- or solid-state NMR are required; experience with structure calculation and MD would be an advantage. A good level of English is required. For PhD applicants, a Masters degree in chemistry, physics, biochemistry or similar is required as well as an interest in plunging into the intriguing field of NMR spectroscopy including theory and application.
Workplace
The Max-Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry is one of the leading institutions for NMR-based structural biology worldwide with a long tradition for excellency in research. The solid-state-NMR equipment available is: 850 MHz WB, 800 MHz NB, 600 MHz WB with DNP, 400 MHz WB, and a 950 MHz NB (shared between liquid and solid-state NMR) with a comprehensive collection of probes including 1.3 mm ones. The solid-state setup is complemented by solution-NMR spectrometers: 400, 2×600, 2×700, 900, the shared 950 MHz is being installed and the 1.2 GHz coming when available from Bruker. The environment is further characterized by excellent biochemical facilities and close interaction with our neighboring X-ray, MD, EM, molecular biology etc. groups with impressive track records working in different areas of biology at the MPI.
We are associated with excellent graduate programs for PhD students like the Göttingen Graduate School for Neurosciences, Biophysics, and Molecular Biosciences (GGNB).
Göttingen is a mid-size, well-connected and very beautiful and historic student city (~25k students) in the center of Germany entirely set up for young people. It has lots of scenic and directly accessible countryside around it.
