The BioMed X Innovation Center constitutes a novel way of collaboration at the interface between academia and industry. Young life science talents from all over the world are working jointly on pre-clinical research topics in the fields of biomedicine, molecular biology, cell biology and chemoinformatics. Interdisciplinary project teams are collaborating in an open-innovation lab facility on the campus of the University of Heidelberg, with guidance of experienced mentors from academia and industry while expanding their scientific network and receiving an intensive entrepreneurship and leadership training.

Metabolism & Signaling in Cancer (MSC)

The overarching goal of the MSC research group at the BioMed X Innovation Center is the identification of new biomarkers and anticancer drug targets. The group is interested in finding novel factors involved in stress-induced pathways especially secretory or endoplasmic reticulum / unfolded protein response stress signaling networks, which support cancer cell survival. Both genome-wide and candidate-based approaches are currently used in the laboratory to select secretory stress-regulated factors.

We are looking for outstanding and highly motivated individuals with expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry and mammalian cell biological techniques including lenti- and retroviral work for RNAi-mediated knockdown and overexpression, cell viability assays, microscopy or FACS. Good bioinformatics skills for database queries and experience with mouse work would be additional assets. Excellent communication skills, working co-operatively as part of an international team as well as independently, are also essential criteria for this post.

What we offer

The post is offered for an initial term of two years, with the possibility of prolongation for up to two additional years, and an option for a permanent position.

As part of the research group in the above mentioned field the post includes a generous funding package covering personal salary, consumables, services, travels, as well as access to the core facilities of neighboring research institutions and biotechnology companies in Heidelberg.

There is flexibility over starting dates, but successful applicants are anticipated to take up post by June 15th, 2014.
