美国哈佛大学招收物理学/化学博士后
Postdoctoral Researcher in Physics/Chemistry : Cambridge, MA, United States
We currently have an opening for a postdoc for one of the following projects:
1) A liquid quadrupole for continuous-flow particle filtering.
Preparative mass spectrometry suffers massive losses due to ionization, vaporization, and/or inlet losses. Those losses could be eliminated if the samples were filtered directly in situ, but currently all mass spectrometers are operated in the gas phase. We are exploring the idea and usefulness of a quadrupole that operates on a flowing liquid. This project involves microfabrication, theoretical study of the particle/electric field/fluid interactions, optical detection, and studies of the packing morphologies of filtered particles.
2) A custom mass spectrometer for both electronic and infrared spectroscopy studies of gas phase ions.
We are interested in the intrinsic photophysics of fluorescent dyes, and electron and proton donors. Infrared action spectroscopy, UV photodissociation, and fluorescence are all tools we can use to obtain information about the bonding configuration and electronic state of an ion or ion-molecule complex. To accommodate all three spectroscopic methods we have developed a segmented linear ion trap that is incorporated into a custom mass spectrometer-based system. The experimental set up is ~75% complete, so the day-to-day work on this project will initially involve the final stages of construction and testing, including work on hardware, electronics, and some control software. Work will then evolve to data acquisition and analysis, including the requisite amount of theory to aid data analysis.
We are looking for folks with an interest and curiosity about problem solving in the above mentioned aspects of these projects. A Ph.D is required. Experience in any of the above fields is helpful for getting started, but we most concerned about your motivation and eagerness to learn and explore.
